well, some recent rain has given me a bit of a respite from my allergies, though i'm now told to watch out for further blooming since with extra water, plants will tend to surge in growth. . . yipeee! and thanks to my brother, i also have a new link up. i have no idea what was wrong with the old wireless card, but this one seems to work. another yippeee!

so back at the sfbc, but i've already finished my soup, and i didn't bring all the work with me that i wish i had, therefore there are possibilities that i will be back tomorrow to finish up some more stuff.

something that has been on my mind for a bit. . . completely off any prior subject i think. . .

marriage, or more to the point, weddings. . . not mine of course. but with my former roommate's (from emerson) wedding coming up this summer, i was thinking. . .this may be, well it's definitely the first conventional wedding i'll be going to, but thinking of my close friends, it may be one of the few conventional weddings i go to. (if i get the time off :) heeeheeeheee) so yeah, in recent years, i've been to 2 of my friends' weddings. the first, nana's.. . was in a sports bar that she had worked in earlier- installing the swanky sound system. she wore a really cute blue summer dress, and he wore a traditional japanese something or other -sorry, i don't know the name-and she's japanese, and he's jewish. it was a group all our friends, and sadly, because the knicks were doing well in the playoffs we had to cut the reception short due to a knicks party invading the place. i remember on the taxi cab over, al (her hubby) was running late, just getting his hair bleached. and in the rush, they both forgot the marriage liscence. so they ended up signing it later. it was a lot of fun, but not quite a church affair.

the next wedding did take place in a chapel, a vegas chapel. yep, mercedes and her hubby gordon got married in a vegas chapel during ldi (the lighting conference i get to see a bunch of my friends at). a few emerson friends were at the conference and were soon invited, though mer seemed really happy to have me there, i think i was one of her closer friends that was on hand. gordon's parents showed up, and seemed a little taken aback by the casuality of the rest of the people there. two other co-workers had carried a small inky to the wedding -through airport security and such- in order to have a fun light-up site gag as part of the wedding. they then each held cell phones up. . . on one was mer's mother and grandmother, and the other had mer's brother on the other end. mer wore a gorgeous mandarin style pink dress that she bought on ebay, and gordon wore a stylish slick suit, with a leather jacket it i remember correctly. gordon's family took us all out for a wonderful dinner afterwards, deep in the bellies of one of the casinos. again, it was a great time. and the wedding shots, which are taken by the chapel's photographer-this is how they really make their money- were supposed to be these cheesy posed things, but mer and gordon made it their own. then, of course- us emersonians never being much for rules- took a bunch of gag shots outside the chapel.

so jen's wedding, coming up, is really different. i don't know how mer and gordon proposed to each other, but i do have inside info that nana's and al's took place in the bathroom. (i'll let your imaginations wander) jen, is far more conventional. . . traditional?. . . i'm not sure of the right word to use here. she's girly. i doubt that she would have a bachlor/bachlorette party at a strip bar in vegas- yep, and i got to hang out with my boss there as well. it was really lame, even for a strip bar. the 'main act' was a dancer, and older woman with a dent in her ass, and she started singing, 'diamonds are a girl's best friend' or something like that. finally, it was definitely time to go!

where was i, oh yeah, jen. . .my former roommate. she's very classy, and her taste is very pretty and classic, very feminine. lots of small but tasteful floral prints in her outfits. and i do remember how she would set out all of her clothes for the next day each evening, which also included a complete set of jewelery that matched the colors and patterns. unless of course she was too smashed coming home from a party :)

anyway, her proposal was definitely romantic, as she is. yes, that's the word i was stretching for earlier, romantic. she took up running after college, which i think is amazing. i love it when my female friends take up physical challenges. she's taken to running several marathons now as well. boston and nyc. she was running the nyc marathon. her family, from queens was there to cheer her on. her fiancee was supposed to be covering a sporting event in boston, but he set the whole thing up. he was waiting at the finishline for her. wrapped in her silver heat blanket, all sweaty and i'm only guessing-completely exhausted. . . . her family and fiancee surrounded her and he got down on one knee and proposed.

i know. . . romantic, huh? i wouldn't expect anything less from her life. i used to find poetry/ graffitti written about her on hidden desks in the old emerson library. and not nasty stuff either. . . . frilly, complimentary, odes.

i've received her invite to the wedding. there will be a church involved and the family has already set up a block of rooms for the wedding party in a nearby hotel. i really want to get there for it. still have to put it by my bosses. i'd really love to share that event with her. and again, i'm sure there will be a handful of emerson friends there and it will be a lot of fun. . . but somehow i imagine a white wedding dress and a crying mother of the bride. . . not quite what i've been a part of lately.

then, there's dan. . . . who mentioned that he and his boyfriend had thought a little of doing something if this whole gay marriage goes through. right now it doesn't sound too good, but i would be so excited to be a part of his wedding. not that i'd put pressure on him at all, but i think it would be so much fun to be a best man, or maybe groom's maid, or best maid? hmmm. . . . what would that be called? not that the position exists let alone if up for grabs. . . . :) but i'd love to have a celebration with a group of friends. . . and dan, being one of my oldest friends, it would be that much more special.

anyway, yeah, that's whats been going through my head. . . on a gray day here where radiohead's 'ok computer' seems to be a good soundtrack for the day.
